Sugar Army are back.

2009’s debut album The Parallels Amongst Ourselves established the Perth quartet as a unique and engaging force on the vast Australian music landscape. Fast forward to 2012 and the band is now ready to reveal a taste of what they’ve spent their lengthy hiatus working on.

Hooks For Hands is the first single to be taken from Sugar Army’s second record, due for release in early 2012.

In July/August of 2011 Sugar Army headed over to Sydney as a three-piece to record and mix the 10 track album at Big Jesus Burger studios. Under the watchful eye of producer Eric J (Weezer, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) and mixer Scott Horscroft (Silverchair, The Presets), Hooks For Hands evolved into a crisp, commanding tune with a pulsing rhythm and infectious melody that’s nigh on impossible to ignore. It sees the return of some of the blithe enthusiasm and playfulness prevalent in the band’s early work.

“This song was one of the first few written for this record. It’s a bit different to what we’ve done before but we don’t feel it’s too foreign. We wanted create something that was solid, rhythmic and driving. We feel there’s an inherent freedom and joy in this song”.- Sugar Army
